The start
Norea Mediemisjon was started by Norwegian Lutheran Mission (NLM) back in 1956. The first program in Norwegian was aired from North Africa on December 30. 1956. The name of the radio station was The Voice of Tangier. Dr. Paul Freed started the radio ministry in Tangier, and Mediemisjon joined in taking responsibility for the broadcast in Norwegian language.
In 1959/60 the radiostation in Tangier was closed down due to problems with the authorities in the country. In 1961 Trans World Radio succeded in buying new facilities in Monte Carlo. Norea Mediemisjon broadcasted programs from Monte Carlo up to 1993. Now all broadcasts in Norwegian is done inside the country. Still Norea Mediemisjon support programs in other languages that are transmitted form TWR facilities.
Other countries
Norea Mediemisjon started focusing on radio - ministry to other countries for 1963. Today Norea is involved in programs on more than 20 languages around the world.
Ownership
Today Norea Mediemisjon is a part of the Norwegian Lutheran Mission Media - center at Gimlekollen in Kristiansand. Norea is an independent organization but it is owned by the NLM. The Media - Center in Kristiansand stands on four pillars. That is the Media College, LYNOR technical department, Norea Mediemisjon, department of media mission and GIMRA the local radio station.
Income and budget
The entire income of Norea Mediemisjon is based on voluntary gifts. Found - raising is done through offerings in churches and prayrhouses and by mailing coupons to the addresses we have on our mailing list. There is about 15.000 names on this list.
